The Duke of Sussex wrote in his memoir that the late monarch reached out to the Duchess during what was a challenging time in her personal life. The Queen’s call is said to have happened as the Sussexes were having tea with King Charles.

In Spare, Harry wrote: “We all looked stunned. Meg tentatively reached for the phone. It seemed Granny was calling to talk about Meg’s father.”

The call came following a letter the former Suits actress had sent to the Queen asking for advice and assistance with the situation. In it, Meghan is said to have opened up about how she struggled with her dad continuously talking to the press and making hurtful comments. It’s thought the Queen told Meghan to ignore any press and try to reason with her father.

This gesture came in response to a letter Meghan had written to the Queen, seeking advice and assistance with her father. Meghan expressed her struggle with the press constantly interviewing her father and enticing him to make hurtful remarks. The Queen’s suggestion was for Meghan to disregard the press, visit her father, and try to reason with him.

After it was noted that there would be press swarming his home in a Mexican border town, which could lead to safety concerns, the Queen suggested Meghan wrote a letter instead and King Charles is said to have labelled the idea by his mother as a “splendid” one.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, relationship expert Louella Alderson previously admitted Meghan and her dad’s fractured bond is unlikely to see the pair ever be close again. However, she did say that given time it could “heal”.

“It’s possible for relationships to mend and heal over time,” she said. “But ultimately, it will depend on both parties being willing to put in effort and work towards reconciliation. It would take a lot of forgiveness and understanding from Meghan to repair her relationship with her father, and it’s unclear if she is ready or willing to do so at this point.”
