Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were given five options after they announced they would be stepping down as senior working royals.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were given a stern, three-word ultimatum before they stepped down as senior working royals, it has been claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sensationally quit the Royal Family and moved to the US back in 2020.

But before their grand departure, the couple claimed they wanted to carry on working for the Firm as part-time royals.

However, that arrangement did not meet well with the late Queen Elizabeth, who is believed to have told Harry that there was no room for “half jobs” and dealt him a brutal three word ultimatum that they will either have to be “in or out”.

Following their decision to step back in early 2020, the royals gathered for a meeting in what is now known as the “Sandringham Summit” where they discussed the couple’s future.

In the couple’s Netflix docuseries, they talked about how they were given five options ranging from “all in, no change” to “all out” of the Royal Family.

The couple asked for something in between, they added but that idea was rejected.

Harry famously said: “It became very clear very quickly that goal was not up for discussion or debate.”

After the summit, the late Queen announced: “Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family.

“My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family. Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives.

“It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK. These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days.”

It comes after experts suggested the Sussex couple could be wanting to return to the Royal Family as part-time royals now that King Charles is in charge.

Royal author Tom Quinn told The Mirror: “Meghan and Harry had always hoped that when Queen Elizabeth died, Charles would take a less strict view of what it means to be a working Royal.”
