Prince William and Princess Kate are seeking a new Assistant Private Secretary to join their team at Kensington Palace.

According to the job specification, the role will include the organisation of the couple’s engagements within Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. The candidate will be expected to bring specific expertise on Welsh communities, affairs, government and business, as well as supporting the development of strategy for the couple within their roles as the Prince and Princess of Wales.

As well as planning the couple’s day-to-day engagements, the candidate will also play a key part of the ‘on the ground’ team in delivering these engagements.

The ideal applicant will work alongside other Private Secretaries, Communications Secretaries, the Visits & Events Team, and the Diary Manager to identify, shape and deliver opportunities.

They will also be expected to deliver written advice to the Prince and Princess of Wales and senior household officials and to provide sound judgement on proposals received.

Although the new hire would be responsible for William and Kate’s public engagements in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, the couple want their new Assistant Private Secretary to specifically focus on Wales and believe it is “essential” that they speak conversational Welsh.

For the personal specification, the pair are looking for a candidate who is a “supportive team player”, a “high level of personal resilience” and has “excellent communications skills”.

As reported by GB News, a royal source told the publication that William – shortly after becoming the Prince of Wales – had begun learning Welsh, and wanted to deepen the trust and respect of the people of Wales over time.

It is understood that William and Kate wanted to support Welsh language and culture in their own way and to not follow the customs set out by older generations of the Royal Family.

At present, particularly after the Princess of Wales’s cancer diagnosis earlier this year, the couple are looking at driving forward with their plans and are seeking “specific expertise on Welsh communities, affairs, government, and business”.

The chosen candidate will be in close contact with the Prince of Wales’ Private Secretary, Ian Patrick.

He is relatively new to Kensington Palace and took over from Jean-Christophe Gray – who is now Director General of the Cabinet Office and 10 Downing Street.

Kensington Palace has been approached for comment.
