Prince William has declined to reveal how much tax he pays – and there’s likely to be only one reason for this according to a royal expert

There is only one reason for Prince William declining the opportunity to reveal how much tax he pays, according to a royal expert.

The Prince of Wales has refused to reveal how much tax he pays on private income derived from his massive property portfolio. His Duchy of Cornwall estate, which he inherited after grandmother the late Queen Elizabeth II died in 2022, generated huge profits of £23.6m over the last financial year.

His dad King Charles would publish a full breakdown of household costs when he was the Duke of Cornwall, but William is taking a different approach.

According to ITV’s royal editor Chris Ship, there can only be one conclusion to draw from that.

He told the Talking Royals podcast: “He [Prince William] is handling things in a slightly different way and I’d say a bit less transparently.

However, since the criticism that the couple received over the Mother’s Day picture back in March, Kate and William now quietly release the pictures on social media rather than sending them to agencies to appear on the front page of national newspapers.

Much like Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’s birthdays earlier this year, Kate and William shared a new picture of Prince George to mark his 11th birthday last week.

The image was – like the ones for Charlotte and Louis – released on the morning of July 22 on Kate and William’s X and Instagram accounts.
