King Charles’s statement of support for his “beloved” daughter-in-law appears to show just how close the two of them really are.
King Charles praised the Princess of Wales in a statement released after her emotional address revealing her shock cancer diagnosis – but two words featured show just how close they really are.
The monarch – who was also diagnosed with cancer earlier this year – released the statement, which stated that he is “so proud of Catherine for her courage”.
The statement also said that the King was in “closest contact” with Kate, who officially joined the Royal Family in 2011.
Speaking to OK!, royal expert Jennie Bond spoke of the King’s relationship with his “beloved” daughter-in-law – pointing out two words that show their sweet bond.
Ms Bond said: “I noticed in the King’s statement of support after Kate’s broadcast he said he was in the ‘closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law’. I was struck by the fact that he didn’t say close, but closest.”
With both of them recently revealing their cancer battles, the expert said that these are likely to have bought them even closer.
She said: “There’s no doubt that cancer has cemented an already strong relationship. It’s very touching to think of Charles “toddling down the corridor to see Kate when they were both in hospital. And it is understood that the King was left very emotional after their one-on-one lunch at Windsor Castle the day after she recorded her broadcast.”
The expert continued: “There are so very few people in whom a senior royal can confide, certain that everything they say will be secure.
The King and Princess Kate have both been diagnosed with cancer this year
“I’m sure that both Charles and Kate have found it comforting to be able to discuss their emotions as well as the chemotherapy treatment and how it has made them feel.”
As well as speaking of Kate’s “genuine affection” for her father-in-law, Ms Bond added that the monarch makes it no secret that he is “enormously proud” of her too.
Ms Bond added: “After all, remember how Diana said Charles had always wanted a daughter. And he loves the grandchildren and now sees much more of them either at Windsor or Sandringham.”
Speaking of his grandchildren, Ms Bond said that he is likely trying to still be a “fun grandpa” despite his cancer battle.

Charles recently stepped out in Windsor to attend the annual Easter Sunday service – although the Prince and Princess of Wales did nto attend as the focus on Kate’s ongoing cancer treatment.
The couple made the decision to not attend the service with their three children, just days after revealing Kate’s cancer diagnosis on March 22.
The King was, however, joined by other members of the family – including all three of his siblings.
King Charles’s expression of support for his beloved daughter-in-law, Princess Katherine, is deeply touching and underscores the profound bond they share. In his statement, King Charles, who is also battling cancer, expressed immense pride in Katherine’s courageous demeanor, emphasizing their close relationship with the phrase “beloved daughter-in-law.”
This subtle yet powerful testament to their affection and respect for each other reflects the warmth and closeness of their connection. As both King Charles and Princess Katherine navigate their respective cancer journeys, their shared experiences likely draw them even closer together.
Recalling Diana’s sentiments about Charles’s longing for a daughter and his evident adoration for his grandchildren, it’s evident that familial bonds are strong within the royal family. Despite recent challenges, including Katherine’s ongoing treatment, King Charles made a public appearance at the annual Easter Sunday service in Windsor, highlighting the priority placed on Katherine’s health journey.
The poignant exchange of well-wishes between King Charles and Princess Katherine on Easter Sunday further demonstrates their unwavering support for each other. Despite their individual struggles, their bond remains strong, strengthened by a shared sense of resilience and mutual support.
As they confront their diagnoses, King Charles and Princess Katherine find solace in each other’s support. Their close bond was evident during a private lunch they shared just before Katherine’s health announcement, further emphasizing their solidarity.
With a smaller family gathering for Easter due to health precautions, the absence of Princess Katherine, Prince William, and their children was notable. However, their decision to opt for a private celebration at home reflects the importance of family support during this challenging time.
Princess Katherine’s heartfelt video message mentioning her husband and children underscores their significance in her life during this difficult period. As she focuses on her recovery journey, her family remains her steadfast support system, providing comfort and strength.
Throughout Katherine’s cancer journey, Prince William has been a pillar of support for his wife, offering unwavering encouragement and companionship. Together, they stand as a formidable team, inspiring admiration and hope through their unwavering partnership in the face of adversity.
