PRINCESS Diana once shocked parents at Prince Harry’s sports day in 1991 when she chucked royal protocol aside to compete in the mums’ race.

In resurfaced footage, the former royal demonstrated her fun and daring side by joining in with proceedings at the annual school event.

The former Princess of Wales can be seen walking barefoot after ditching her shoes and socks on the field as she prepares to line up alongside other mums.

The fascinating footage captures the much loved royal smiling and engaging in conversation ahead of starting the race.

But once the race begins, Diana goes full throttle in front of stunned spectators.

The Princess – who sprinted barefoot in a billowing skirt – finished a close second.

One person said: “She wanted to win… for sure! Love her energy!”

A second commented: “Imagine running with THE PRINCESS.”

A third added: “An amazing person she just didn’t care about the consequences and just went for it.”

Ironically, it wasn’t the first time the Princess had participated in the Mothers’ Race at William and Harry’s pre-preparatory school, having competed previously in 1989 and 1990.

It’s safe to say that Diana certainly wasn’t afraid to show her children how it was done.

And her passion for embracing a normal life for both her and her children appears to have been passed on.

Kate and William are also said to be ”like a normal mum and dad” when it comes to their children’s school events, a source has claimed.

The couple are reported to be ”hands-on” parents who never miss an event at the swanky Lambrook School in Berkshire where their three kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are pupils.

According to Hello! magazine, Kate and Will, both 41, take part in all school activities and even ‘queued up’ ”for the tombola” in a recent fundraising drive.
