In a bombshell book, Royals at War, written by Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett, it is claimed the Duke of Cambridge took his younger sibling aside and questioned him on the American actress, asking: “Is she the right one?” Sources told the book the intervention took place soon after William first met the former Suits star in 2016.

While William’s words of caution were well-intentioned, the book claims this moment was the beginning of what would become a “civil war” between the Royal households of Cambridge and Sussex.
Harry was said to have taken the remark as a slight and accused his brother of trying to derail the relationship.
Prince Harry ignored the probe from Prince William and went on to propose to Meghan.
When the couple were engaged in 2017, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge expressed their excitement and said: “It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.”

Meghan said in an interview with Vanity Fair she met Harry in July 2016 in London “through friends”.
The Duchess of Sussex made it clear in the early days the world’s attention on her romance did not faze her.
She said: “I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.
“The people who are close to me anchor me in knowing who I am. The rest is noise.”

Harry and Meghan met in 2016.
Sources in Royals at War say Harry was drawn to his future wife’s “confidence, commitment, drive and ambition”.
In an interview with the BBC, asked when he knew Ms Markle was “the one,” he replied: “The very first time we met.”
The book also claims after Meghan accompanied Harry on a trip to Botswana in 2017, the Duchess of Cambridge was also reported to have warned Harry to take things slowly.
A source in the book told investigative journalists Mr Howard and Mr Tillett: “She gently reminded him that he was dating someone with a completely different life, past, and career and it would take time, care and attention for them to integrate.”

Alongside this, the new book also claims William warned Harry the family didn’t know Meghan’s intentions and her background.
The authors say Harry expressed some anger and accused his brother of trying to ruin their relationship.
But sources in the book also suggest many of the royal circle were supportive of the relationship and claim after a meeting of senior royals which Meghan also attended, one well-placed aide remarked: “All their IQs put together would not equal hers.”
Another source said: “It’s my opinion that Harry feels he couldn’t protect his mother, so he’s going all out to protect his wife.
“He is so sensitive he often sees criticism or negativity where there isn’t any.”
William and Harry fell out over the warning, claims the book
In the book, Mr Howard and Mr Tillett concluded of the relationship between the brothers: “The rifts that eventually opened up in the Royal family after Meghan arrived could have been avoided if Harry was able to empathise and take his brother’s concerns in the spirit they were intended.”
Kensington Palace declined to comment on the new book.
The book is available online and nationwide from July 15. Go to www.royalsatwar.com
