Prince Harry alleged that the Prince of Wales was furious over one perk which was granted to him before key date.

Prince William and Prince Harry allegedly got into an argument over protocol which left the heir to the throne “livid” just before the royal wedding in 2018, according to the Duke’s memoir, Spare.

The Duke of Sussex alleged that his older brother was furious for more than a week after he was allowed a perk William couldn’t have – a beard.

According to Harry’s memoir, published in early 2023, just before his wedding to Meghan Markle on May 19, the prince asked his late grandmother about whether he could keep his beard for his wedding.

Harry wrote: “A beard was thought by some to be a clear violation of protocol and long-standing norms, especially since I was getting married in my Army uniform. Beards were forbidden in the British Army.”

The Duke claimed he told the late Queen Elizabeth of how the beard made him feel calmer, to which she replied: “‘Yes’, she said, ‘you may keep your beard’.

Prince William and Prince Harry “But then I explained it to my brother and he… bristled? Not the done thing, he said. Military rules, and so forth.”

Harry alleged that he had to give William a “quick history lesson” on Google, showing him images of other royals who were bearded and in uniform and then he told him about Queen Elizabeth granting him permission to keep his.

It was then when, according to Harry, the Prince of Wales “became livid”, and claimed he told him: “You put her in an uncomfortable position, Harold! She had no choice but to say yes.”

Harry wrote in his book that William didn’t let go of the argument for over a week before asking him to shave it off before the big day, with the duke asking why on earth it mattered.

The duke wrote: “Ah, there it was. After he’d come back from an assignment with Special Forces, Willy was sporting a full beard, and someone told him to be a good boy, run along and shave it. He hated the idea of me enjoying a perk he’d been denied.”

The Prince of Wales has never commented on Harry’s claims.
