Prince Harry’s account of Queen Elizabeth II’s death isn’t the correct version of events and the reason why will shock you, says a royal expert

It seems it could be another case of ‘recollections may vary’ for the Royal Family after it was said that Harry’s claim about the Queen’s death ‘isn’t exactly true’.

Many were shocked when the Duke of Sussex revealed in his memoir Spare that he found out about the Queen’s death via the BBC website rather than his own family. However, one royal author says this version of events may differ from reality.

After rushing to be by the late Queen’s side following the news of her fast-declining health, Harry alleged in his book that when his chartered flight from Luton (which was reportedly delayed, circling due to bad weather over Aberdeen) landed, he was urged to check the BBC website by his wife Meghan Markle. When he did he discovered he was sadly too late.

Queen Elizabeth II passed away at her beloved Balmoral estate in Scotland on September 8, 2022, at 96, with Harry writing in his book: “When the plane started to descend I saw that my phone lit up. It was a message from Meg, ‘Call me when you get this’. I looked at the BBC website. My grandmother had died. My father was King.”

‘Controversial’ royal author, Omid Scobie, also claimed Harry was ‘kept in the dark’ about the Queen’s health decline in the hours preceding her death. In his book Endgame, the author said Harry and Meghan had ‘no idea’ the Royal Family were preparing for the Queen’s final hours.

Since then, however, royal author, Richard Hardman, has slammed Harry’s claims, and said they’re inaccurate. In his own bombshell book: ‘Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story,’ Hardman said that the Royal Family had tried in vain to get in touch with Harry multiple times, with calls unable to reach him while he was airborne.

“A member of the Palace staff says that the King had been urgently trying to make contact with his younger son,” said Hardman in his book. “There were repeated attempts to get through to him but no calls were going through because Harry was airborne.”
