KATE MIDDLETON and Prince William, married in 2011 at Westminster Abbey. The wedding was watched by millions on TV, much like Princess Diana’s wedding to Prince Charles in 1981. However, there was one striking difference.

Kate Middleton’s wedding was one of the most anticipated since Prince Charles, 71, wed the late Princess Diana. All elements of the wedding were subject to speculating, including the jewellery.

Many royal commentators opined that the soon to be wife of Prince William might wear the same tiara as his mother on her wedding day.

The piece Diana wore on her wedding day is not dissimilar from the tiara Kate Middleton wore for her’s.

Kate wore the Cartier Scroll Tiara for her day, another scroll design.

However, this piece, borrowed from Her Majesty the Queen, is a little more simple it its design.

It features diamonds and platinum, and is set with one large, spectacular diamond in the centre. The piece was given to Queen Elizabeth as an 18th birthday gift.

Diana’s wedding tiara is a slightly larger scroll tiara, set with floral designs.

Unlike the Cartier tiara is is made of multiple metals, with diamond star-shaped flowers, tulips and foliage, set in silver on a gold base.

It is a stunning tiara. However, it is likely Kate did not wear the tiara for her royal wedding to Prince William as it is not a royal tiara.

The tiara actually belonged to Lady Diana Spencer’s own family. It is, therefore, known as the Spencer tiara.
