MICHAEL OLISE JOINS BAYERN MUNICH FROM CRYSTAL PALACE ON FIVE-YEAR DEAL – ‘IT’S A GREAT CHALLENGE’
Michael Olise has joined Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace on a five-year deal until 2029.
Olise, the French right winger, was one of the most talked about players throughout the summer transfer window, and the saga surrounding is future is finally over as he makes the move to the Bundesliga.
The 21-year-old was admired by Manchester United, Chelsea, and Newcastle United, with the latter two clubs reportedly being given permission by Palace to speak to the Frenchman, but he has elected to make the switch to Germany for an undisclosed fee.
Bayern, now managed by former Burnley boss Vincent Kompany, found themselves at the front of the queue after Chelsea reportedly decided that a deal for Olise would be too expensive for them.
Olise said of the move: “The talks with FC Bayern were very positive, and I’m very happy to now be playing for such a big club.
“It’s a great challenge, and that’s exactly what I was looking for. I want to prove myself at this level and play my part in ensuring that we win as many titles as possible with our team in the coming years.”
Max Eberl, FC Bayern board member for sport said: “Michael Olise is a player who can make the difference and attracted great interest with his style of play.
“We want new impetus in our team, new energy, new ideas – that’s what players like Michael Olise stand for. During the talks, he quickly signalled that he really wanted to join FC Bayern. We’re very much looking forward to him. He will enrich our game.”
Christoph Freund, FC Bayern sporting director added: “Michael is quick, tricky, a goal threat and very versatile in attack. His goals and assists stats are already outstanding.
“At the age of 22, Michael is already very advanced, but is also hungry and still has a lot of potential. Fans come to the stadium to see players like Michael Olise.”
Olise moved to south London from Reading in 2021, and was brought to Selhurst Park by Patrick Vieira.
He was one of the Eagles’ standout performers last season, scoring 10 goals and adding six assists in 19 appearances despite being ruled out for large periods with recurring injuries.
Olise has been named in Thierry Henry’s France squad for the Olympic Games in Paris, and should Les Bleus reach the final of the tournament, the winger would have just two weeks to prepare for the Bundesliga season, which starts on August 23.
