The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) witnessed an unexpected yet heartwarming crossover as Justin Brownlee, renowned import for Barangay Ginebra in the PBA, graced the volleyball courts to support Filipina athletes, particularly his favorite player, Sisi Rondina of Choco Mucho.
Brownlee, a familiar face in Philippine basketball, made heads turn as he appeared at the Philsports Arena, not in his usual basketball attire, but in the stands, eager to witness the high-flying action of the PVL.
Expressing his admiration for Filipina athletes, Brownlee emphasized his excitement to witness the caliber of volleyball on display.
“I’m just excited to see the women athletes perform and see what they’ve got,” shared Brownlee, highlighting his anticipation for the thrilling matches ahead.
Interestingly, Brownlee’s visit wasn’t merely about spectating; it was a homage to his favorite volleyball star, Sisi Rondina.
Despite his towering presence in basketball, Brownlee’s admiration for Rondina’s dynamic playstyle and remarkable athleticism transcended sports boundaries.
“Sisi Rondina, that’s one of my favorite players,” confessed Brownlee, acknowledging Rondina’s prowess on the court. Despite her modest stature, Rondina’s ability to dominate the game with her all-around skills and aerial prowess left Brownlee in awe.
Fast forward to the action-packed match between Choco Mucho and Cignal, where Rondina, fueled by the presence of her idol, delivered a stellar performance, securing a straight-set victory for her team.
With 23 points to her name, Rondina’s dazzling display of skill and determination earned her the admiration of both fans and fellow athletes.
For Rondina, meeting Brownlee after the game was a moment of pure honor and validation.
“Isang karangalan,” she expressed, overwhelmed by the opportunity to meet a soon-to-be Filipino icon whose feats on the basketball court are celebrated nationwide.
In a brief yet memorable encounter, Brownlee and Rondina exchanged admiration and mutual respect, bridging the worlds of basketball and volleyball through their shared passion for sports excellence.
