Princess Diana was known for her cheeky sense of humour that she once played a hilarious prank on Oprah Winfrey, a new chapter in Robert Lacey’s book ‘Battle of Brothers’ has revealed.

Discussing the late royal, who died aged 36 in 1997, Mr Lacey said that Diana “never had much time” for Oprah.

However, the 70-year-old was reportedly so eager to secure an interview with her that she even travelled to London to try and convince her.

According to the author, Diana decided to invite her for lunch at Kensington Palace. Before the meeting, Diana asked her personal chef Darren McGrady to prepare his special tomato mousse for Oprah – but a full-fat version.

As they enjoyed their tasty lunch, Oprah is said to have asked Diana, “Diana, how do you stay so slim eating rich foods like this?”, to which she said that she worked out regularly and ate small portions.

After being given careful instructions by Diana, Darren had made a fat-free version for the royal but a full-fat version for Oprah.

The author claims the chef said: “Diana never did tell the truth”, and that the late royal felt “very uncomfortable” with Oprah.

The chef, according to Mr Lacey, said: “She thought that Oprah was only after sensationalism – like when she interviewed Fergie about her book, and all she wanted to talk about was Diana.”

As reported by the Mirror, Diana was reportedly concerned that she only wanted to speak to her to increase her ratings.

Fast forward to 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle clearly had a different opinion of Oprah after they did a sit-down bombshell interview with her. In the interview, the couple criticised the Royal Family, opening up about their time in the Firm and made several accusations, including that conversations had taken place about the colour of their then-unborn son’s skin.
