The joke didn’t land

One of the biggest events of the year on the Royal Family’s calendar is Trooping the Colour, or the King’s Birthday Parade.

This year’s event will be especially noteworthy given King Charles is currently being treated for cancer. While he has been cleared to attend, it is unclear whether daughter-in-law Kate will be there.

Meghan Markle thought the camera was off during tv interview

That’s because the Princess of Wales has been out of the spotlight while she also deals with her own battle with cancer.

What is certain is that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle won’t be in attendance. The couple attended while they were working royals, but that hasn’t been the case since they decided to move to the United States.

While the couple won’t be in attendance for Trooping the Colour, they were present for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee despite their standing in the royal family. As a result they didn’t stand on the Buckingham Palace balcony with the rest of the royals as they watched the RAF flypast.

Harry also revealed an awkward encounter behind closed doors involving Markle when she made her balcony debut after first joining the Royal Family.

Tension between Meghan and Kate

As detailed in his memoir ‘Spare’, the incident took place back in 2018, just a few weeks after Harry and Meghan had gotten married.

The royals had gone back into Buckingham Palace after the flypast, and that’s when Meghan tried to make a joke with Kate. That year Meghan wore a baby pink dress and matching hat, while Harry stood in his military uniform.

Harry wrote that Kate asked Meghan her thoughts on her first Trooping the Colour, to which she replied: “Colourful.”

The response didn’t get a strong reaction from Kate, with Harry stating: “A yawning silence threatened to swallow us all whole.”

Harry noted that there was plenty of tension in the lead to his wedding, which likely played a part in Meghan’s quip landing flat. He accused Kate and William of “stereotyping” his wife, and alleges that his brother called her “difficult”.

He also talked about tension between Kate and Meghan at a bridesmaid fitting, stating that Kate wasn’t happy when Meghan asked to borrow lip gloss at an event.

It seems as though that tension remains, as William and Kate didn’t see Harry when he returned to the UK to celebrate the 10 years of the Invictus Games.
