Thomas Muller warns Spain that Germany are ready to ‘crack them’ in Euro 2024 showdown

Germany veteran Thomas Muller has warned Spain that the host nation are still going up through the gears at the Euros.

Julian Nagelsmann’s team have been impressive on their march to the last eight but now face their biggest test when they meet La Roja in Stuttgart on Friday evening.

Muller, the 35-year-old Bayern Munich forward who is hoping to add to his 130 caps, reckons that Germany are now ready to put their foot down on the accelerator in the city that gave birth to the motor car.

‌Muller said: “We got into the tournament really well by beating Scotland 5-1. You can believe me that there was a lot of tension when we walked onto the pitch at the Allianz Arena, but we were really into it straight away and delivered a little firework display with our performance.

‌“Of course, we needed a last-minute equaliser against Switzerland to go into the knock-out round as deserved group winners, but with a rock-solid performance against Denmark, we paved the way for a real blast in the quarter-finals. The engine runs like it is well oiled and we are ready for the next challenge.

‌“In my opinion, the last meetings with Spain were always pretty even – and that’s how I see this one. This will probably be a very tight match. The Spaniards have so far shown themselves to be a very effective team. But I also see enough starting points with which we can crack them. We are ready and prepared.”

‌Muller is looking to complete football this summer after signing a new one-year contract with Bayern before the tournament started.‌ He has won everything with Bayern and also lifted the World Cup with Germany – but the European crown at international level has eluded him.

‌Muller said: “The results on the pitch are good and the atmosphere in the country is excellent. It’s been great to see the euphoria of the German fans, of course, but also the fans of other nations.
