David Beckham was left red-faced after he was ‘snubbed’ by Prince Harry at the Invictus Games in Sydney, Australia, prompting a rift between the two famous figures
Prince Harry had a frosty three-word response for David Beckham after the soccer star tried to show his support at the Invictus Games in Australia.
The two once shared a close bond, with David and his wife Victoria Beckham even opening their lavish six-bedroom Beverly Hills mansion to Meghan Markle before her Royal wedding. However, their friendship has waned in recent years over “snubs” and David’s friendly relationship with Harry’s estranged relatives.
Royal commentator Emily Andrews has shared details of a particularly frosty moment from 2018 at the Invictus Games in Sydney. David had received a personal invite from Harry after being a VIP guest at Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
However, the atmosphere turned awkward when David arrived in Sydney only to find Harry seemingly avoiding him. Writing for Woman magazine, Andrews disclosed that a source told her: “Becks was personally invited and duly came, along with sons Cruz and Romeo. When he arrived in Sydney, he asked what Harry’s schedule was so he could attend the same events.”
Harry reportedly blurted out in shock: “What the f—? He should be coming to support the games, not have his pictures taken with me.”
The source added: “When we pointed out that having a picture of them together would be great for Invictus coverage, he then said he never wanted to be in a picture with him. That then meant a ridiculous two-step to try and ensure that they were never pictured together.”
The source then recounted an incident at the wheelchair basketball event where David had been seated among VIPs, and Harry and Meghan were expected to join. “A whole area on the other side of the court had to be cleared of spectators and filled with Australian military, so Harry and Meghan could sit there instead,” the source revealed.
Rumors swirled that the “snub” might have been motivated by Meghan’s reluctance to share the spotlight with Victoria during her inaugural Royal tour. It was also speculated that Meghan was suspicious of Victoria and David leaking stories to the media.
