Princess Diana’s Last Photos With Prince William

Princess Diana, best known as the People’s Princess, died at 36 in a car accident. She was with her boyfriend Dodi Al-Fayed and their driver Henri Paul who also passed on that tragic August 31, 1997, in Paris, France.

The news was shocking. Not only Diana was very young, but we had just finally seen her stronger and more confident than ever. She was recently divorced, more mature, independent, beautiful, and even more popular than when she was married to Charles. She was the guest of honor at any event, a fashion icon, and the most loving and fun mom.

When Diana passed, Harry and William were still just kids. William was then 15, while Harry was 12 years old. They enjoyed a unique childhood together with their iconic mother. Despite having millions of eyes over them, Harry and William were very close to their mother, who always did her best to give them a relatively normal and fun childhood.

On August 21, 1997, Prince William and his mom, Princess Diana, were walking down the streets of London as any mother with her teenage son would do, never thinking it would be the last paparazzi photographs of them together. Diana was wearing a very light beige suit with a brown belt, brown shoes, a handbag, a white t-shirt, and glasses on her head. Ten days after these photographs, on August 31, 1997, Diana was already in Paris, France, with her boyfriend Dodi Al-Fayed, the heir to Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed, owner of the British department store Harrods, Fulham Football Club, and the Hôtel Ritz.

Diana was, perhaps, the most-followed person by the paparazzi. They found out that she was with her new partner and traveled to chase them to get photographs that the media paid them very well. Diana and Dodi were in a Mercedes Benz driven by chauffeur Henri Paul. They realized they were being followed by photographers and crashed into a column in the Soul Tunnel. Dodi and Henri passed right away; Diana died en route to the hospital.

Princess Diana’s last call to her children

Prince William confessed in an interview to the British channel ITV that he had a call with his mother before the fatal accident. They were with his father, Prince Charles, and his grandparents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

“She was calling us from Paris, I don’t remember what I said, but all I remember is probably regretting for the rest of my life how short that call was. Harry and I were in a desperate hurry to say goodbye and play on. You know, ‘See ya’… If I had known what was going to happen, I obviously wouldn’t have been so nonchalant about the call,” he said.

Princess Diana’s funeral

On September 6, 1997, the funeral of Princess Diana was held at Westminster Abbey. In the funeral procession, the Crown forced the participation of Prince William and Harry. They walked next to Prince Charles, Prince Philip, and Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer.

An estimated 2.5 billion people watched the funeral on television. There were tears, fainting, applause, and many crowds longing to pay respects and say their last farewells to the People’s Princess.
