Princess Diana and the then-Prince Charles were the centre of attention leading up to their Royal wedding, yet she hinted at issues before they tied the knot.
The young Lady Diana Spencer captured the hearts of the nation during her engagement interviews before her marriage on July 29, 1981. With her grace, charm, and wit, she quickly became a favourite among Royal fans.
But in the days leading up to her wedding with the now-King Charles, Diana’s facade slipped at a pre-wedding party, hinting that not everything was perfect in their relationship.
On Thursday, July 3, the couple made an appearance at a Buckingham Palace garden party for the disabled. As expected, they mingled with guests, engaging in conversation with many attendees.
However, when one guest wished them luck, Diana unexpectedly covered her mouth, reports the Mirror.
The story was featured on the front page of the Daily Mirror
She paused near Daily Mirror feature writer John Edwards and revealed that she had argued with Prince Charles. Recounting the incident for the Channel 5 documentary ‘Charles and Di: The Truth Behind their Wedding,’ Edwards said: “There was a great humour about, an interest in the people she was talking to. She stopped right in front of me, we were only a few foot apart, and somebody said to her ‘good luck darling’.”
“‘Thank you very much’, she said, and then she put her hand over her mouth and she said ‘there was a terrible row last night between Charles and me. It had been his stag party’. In that girly way of hers she repeated it. What the row was about she didn’t go in.”
The next day, John’s story was featured on the front page of the Mirror. The headline declared: ‘The Royal Tiff’
It read: “Lady Diana Spencer made light yesterday of an argument with her future husband, referring to an incident after his stag night.
“While engaging with guests at a Buckingham Palace garden party, Lady Diana cheekily queried: “Where’s Prince Charles. Oh, there he is. He was very cross with me last night.”
