Meghan Markle’s tailor has revealed his thoughts on the infamous bridesmaid dress row that left Princess Charlotte in tears. The dispute, which caused a rift between the Duchess of Sussex and the Princess of Wales, occurred just before Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry in 2018.

Luxury suit and dressmaker Ajay Mirpuri, who wasn’t present for the major tension between Meghan and Kate, admitted he was “not surprised” the argument resulted in tears from the then-three year old. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Ajay revealed he and three others had to work tirelessly when it was discovered none of the six bridesmaids’ dresses fitted, the Express reports.

Mr Mirpuri, who owns a showroom in London’s West End, expressed understanding as to “why anybody would be upset” at such disruption mere days before the Windsor wedding.

He stated: “If anything happened in the background, it didn’t happen in front of me.

“But yes, weddings are stressful at the best of times and especially one at this high level; you’ve got to respect that. They were faced with a problem like anyone gets at a wedding, with last-minute hitches.

“I can understand why anybody would be upset if the dresses weren’t fitting it’s nerve-wracking. I feel for them all, because you wouldn’t want the children to go out on a big stage in an ill-fitting dress and that’s what they were.

“All six bridesmaids’ dresses had to be fixed, and we did it. I’m a royalist and I wanted to do whatever I could with my small business to serve the Royal Family.”

In his tell-all memoir ‘Spare’, Prince Harry claimed just four days before the wedding, Kate sent Meghan a text saying Charlotte was crying because her dress was “too big, too long, too baggy”.

Mr Mirpuri also expressed his disappointment over the media coverage of the incident. He lamented the focus had been on the alleged row rather than “the fact that they [the bridesmaids] looked fabulous.”

The bridal party included not only Princess Charlotte but also Florence van Cutsem, Rylan and Remi Litt, Ivy Mulroney, and Zalie Warren. Prince George, who was four at the time, served as one of Harry’s page boys during the royal nuptials.

Less than two years after their marriage, Meghan and Harry announced their decision to step back from senior royal duties in January 2020. They then relocated to the US with their son Archie and have remained there since.

The former royal couple have since expanded their family with the birth of their daughter Lilibet in June 2021, and currently reside as a family of four in Montecito, California.
